As Unemployment Rises So Do Scams

It is human nature that the more desperate we become, the more we want to believe in those that make us feel good.  And scamsters do best in hard time because they are more likely to reach out to people who feel lost, lonely, betrayed and vulnerable.

And when it comes to Sales Jobs, the mantra is let the buyer beware.

What this means for you is to do your due dilligence to ensure that you do not fall victim to the fraudsters, tricksters and various con artists out there. As a rule of thumb you shouldn’t pay for any part of the job application process.  If at any point in a process a recruiter asks for a fee to cover any costs whatsoever you should consider that you may be part of a scam. With the internet, it is easier than ever to conduct basic research about companies. Here you want to find out:
  • If the company exists. Go to google and type in the company name - risk factors increase when businesses operate out of private residences. Sometimes it is a good idea to use the telephone to determine if you receive a professional response and yousing google maps and google streetview will aso provide additional information.
  • If the company has a history of running scams.  Websites such as  www.ripoffreport.com can help you track businesses that other people report have misrepresented jobs.
  • Check with local Better Business Bureaus to see if the business you are interested in has a history of complaints against it.

Often times you will find that the business that interests you is a wonderful organization that offers real opportunities and even makes a solid contribution to the community and you will find that by performing basic due dilligence, you will be left more confident after the process than before you began.

For you to both be successful and not be ripped off during these difficult tiomes, take so time out to do your own due dilligence on companies that interest you.

This is good advice during any times but especially so now in these difficult and turbulent economic times we live in.
