Build A Focused Resumes And Get More Interview Offers

Working with new clients on a regular basis keeps me loving what I do. I get re-energized learning of their different career paths that eventually led them to me. While becoming acquainted with them, determining their current career objectives, and reviewing their old resumes, clients often assume that additional information should be included on their new resume.

Additional information is obviously helpful and informative during the resume review and development process. Problems arise when, in the process of building or updating their own resume, clients want to include an overload of information that is not relevant.

This is usually the reason job seekers eventually contact a certified resume writer. Many frustrated clients come to me after having little success obtaining interviews with the resume they have developed. It is a wise decision to invest in yourself by obtaining a certified resume writer because it is difficult to be objective when writing for yourself.

Weeding through all of the past experiences can be a very subjective task. Certified writers are trained to sort through information and incorporate only the most relevant information resulting in compelling and focused resumes. Employers are looking for and extend interview offers to job seekers with relevant, fitting resumes.

Those job seekers writing their own resumes need to remember the importance of staying focused. They must ask what the goal of the resume is and what is the specific position they are trying to obtain? Current position achievements and accomplishments will need to be included as well as any formal training, education, or services performed, relevant to the sought position. Candidates with several years of experience have the luxury of retrieving and using only the most applicable experiences and achievements. Don’t feel you need to provide information on all aspects of every job ever held. The excess information just adds clutter to the resume and waters down the strength of the document.

Most employers managing the hiring process are busy and this process can be very time consuming. The average resume is reviewed for 8-20 seconds before given the “yeah or neigh”. So, the more concise and current your resume is the quicker employers will be able to determine you are someone worth looking into.

Employers are looking for actual related accomplishments, transferable skills and actions that show you can manage the job, take initiative and are the right fit for the job and department. They also want to know you will make them money or save them money. Accomplishments that show concrete results will get you noticed the fastest. Your resume also needs to make you stand out and shine, leave a lasting impression, all in the first glance.

A well crafted resume works because it has been specifically developed for your current career goals and one that is not too generic or broadly directed to fit the positions you are seeking. Point all achievements as well as daily responsibilities and skills toward the position you are seeking to build a concise, highly focused resume and gain a distinct advantage over the competition.
