Job Search Sites Every Job Seeker Needs to Check Out

At a career conference I attended last month I was introduced to many new sites, services and products designed to help job seekers find success quicker. Some ideas were big and some just little nuggets that may be of interest to or helpful to my clients and readers.Since this is one of my favorite blog sites that I contribute to, I thought I’d share some of my findings with you today. We had a refresher presentation at the convention, on new and old sites for candidates to use or at least visit during a job search. The first and most obvious was www.LinkedIn.com. If you don’t already have a profile set up at LinkedIn – do it today!A panel of recruiters at the conference unanimously agreed that their first source is always LinkedIn and all recommended that every job seeker put their profile on LinkedIn.  If you are not familiar with LinkedIn.com, it is a social networking site used extensively by recruiters when looking for candidates. You as a job seeker can register for free and develop a profile which points out your past experience and achievements as well as your potential to an employer. You can also become “friends” with others on LinkedIn.com as a means of expanding your network. If you want to join or have already joined but have not linked to any “friends”, you are welcome to send me an invitation for practice.  LinkedIn.com is a great source for recruiters but also a wonderful job search tool for job seekers. You can research companies and industries, find contacts and decision-makers for companies you would like to work for, and is a productive way to build dynamic networks. Other sites to visit during your job search include www.Emurse.com and www.Job-Hunt.org.Emurse is a great site that lets you create, share, and store your resume for free and another resource for recruiters during their candidate search.  Job-Hunt is an endless resource and a must have for your Favorites list when job hunting. Two other sites which I myself am still getting acquainted with include www.VisualCV.com and www.CareerShift.com. The first hopes to follow in the footsteps of LikedIn.com and allows professionals to develop profiles that detail their strengths, skills, experience and what they are looking for. Currently it is free but I don’t know if it will stay this way as the site grows. The other site worth mentioning is www.CareerShift.com. It is a simple, concise and very detailed job search site and allows you a free 24-hour trial to see what the site offers. Job Seekers can use this site for $29.95 per month. It is an inexpensive way to stay organized, research companies and industries, find contacts and their contact information, and send out information.  The job board is very developed and stays current. The site also allows you to upload your resume for others to see, while keeping your contact information confidential and away from the eyes of your employer. A bonus with CareerShift is that those who attended the conference last month and were introduced to this site are able to pass on one month freeto anyone who signs up under one of the attendees. If you are interested in trying this great site out as an organizational and research tool including one month free here is what you can do. When you go to the site and register (which is quick and easy), it will ask for a Group Code and you just need to insert “ResumeWonders” for the code.  That’s it!    After you’ve tried it for a month, please let me know what your thoughts and results were on the month and if you are planning on continuing using the site. I’d love to hear your stories! Check out of the sites mentioned above, remember, the more aggressive you are in your job search the better results you’ll have.
