With the rising price of gas impacting travel, and prices of food, products, and services across the United States, it can also be the reason for the increasing need to have available a great resume. How are gas prices related to the need for a ready resume? Well, actually it is relative in many ways.Â
First is the need to find a job if you are currently unemployed. If collecting unemployment the dollar is losing its’ value as the gas price rises. Products cost more, bills are higher, stress is added and the need for a job is obvious. Â
The first step in finding a great job is to step up your networking and make contacts with those that can help you meet people in your targeted companies. Use a compelling resume to solidify your fit and to increase the importance for a company to extend an interview offer is a close second.Â
Next are the gas hikes that are also interfering in your networking productivity by increasing the cost of driving to appointments, meetings, and networking functions and while conducting research on targeted industries and companies. One alternative is to take advantage of the Internet which means working hard to interact with the same contacts.Â
You can do most of your research via the Internet, reviewing individual companies, industries, competition, reading press releases and articles. Also using LinkedIn and other networking sources, you can find potential contacts to target. It will save you a lot of time and money searching via the Internet before ever leaving your house or getting in your vehicle.Â
Finally, gas prices are effecting corporate decisions as well as consumer and individuals decisions. Whether in manufacturing, construction, retail, or healthcare industries; all are making changes to support the economic changes.Â
Companies are increasing layoffs, reducing their budgets and spending and shrinking benefit packages to offset increasing prices. Many industries and companies’ dependant on oil, are being forced to seek alternative solutions. This is where new jobs will be found. It is important to keep a current understanding of the jobs being created everyday by advancements in medical, technology, and surrounding supplying industries. Â
Look to where new plants and factories are being constructed and companies are opening or expanding. Within these communities there will be a need for food, clothing, shelter, and educational industries. Schools will be opening to support the children being brought in to the communities as well as hospitals, retail and restaurants, and construction industries will be on the rise. Other more distantly related fields will see increases such as positions in accounting, finance, insurance and other service related industries will also see growth because of these changes.Â
Moving to a more productive geographical location may not be something you really want to consider but it may be the right alternative for the current economic climate. Knowing where the jobs are and what those employers are looking for is vital when preparing a new resume to fit your new decisions. Make sure the resume is directly in line with the needs of the company, demonstrating experience and achievements using sought skill and educational requirements.
